Gemstone of Eternal Friendship and Trust
January Birthstone: Garnet
You probably know your zodiac sign and the signs of your family and friends like the back of your hand. In fact, you could probably recite your weekly horoscope and list your compatible signs if we asked you to right now, right? Though, if asked what your birthstone is or what the meaning of the stone was, I have a suspicion you may not be as aware.
January’s birthstone, Garnet, signifies eternal friendship and trust and is the
perfect gift for a friend. This stone is said to be the protective gem of journeyers. A gift of garnet is thought to be symbolic of love and the desire for a loved one's safe travel and speedy homecoming. If you’re thinking about gift ideas for a 2nd year anniversary, the Garnet stone is a sign for passion. Garnet gemstones have been traditionally associated with Royalty in England and the royal family used the stones within their royal robes. Royalty that have worn garnets include Queen Victoria and Mary Queen of Scots. A perfect choice if you are the queen of the castle in your house!
Most garnets come in a color that’s quite close to red, but of course you can get them in pretty much any color that you want. This is why garnet gemstones are associated with passion since it relates to the fiery nature of Aries. The name Garnet appears to originate with the Latin granatum malum which means pomegranate. Pomegranate is the name of the bush which produces a red fruit with seeds.
During the Middle Ages primitive cultures believed that the red stones would stop bleeding. Many early cultures believed that garnets were helpful in preventing and curing blood disorders and infections.
So whether you want to cure a disease, show your passion, or even have safe travels, it seems Garnet is the stone for you!
